Re: L82
I just got some L082. I know this thread is a little dated but like you it was one that I have been trying to obtain for a while. Are the ones you got wild or tank raised? I could not afford wild ones. Joe's Aqua had them on ore sale for 40$ each. But they said they could not get them after all. Th...

Some pictures I've been taking when I thought about it. I did date them to show how long it is taking for them to get the spots.

Re: L82
Thank you. They seem to be eating well and exploring their new home (after lights out mostly). Gave them some black worms the first night just to make sure they ate and some pellets. All were gone by morning.

I don't have any good side by side.... but well fed mature adults are easy to sex. Females will have some odontodes but nowhere near and much as the male has. Females are also wider in the mid section.

Picked up some L82 yesterday. They have been on my wanted list for many years. ~3" to 5.75" TL.... looks like I have both sex in this group but are still very young.

Re: At what age do L397 start breeding?
I bred some of them and kept 1 that I grow up.... turned out to be a female and a friend of mine needed one for his male. He was able to breed it in less than a month after he got it. It was ~15 months old when she bred..... I keep a group in a community tank and have bred them several times..... bu...

They are all doing well and seem to be eating good. Still look drab...but I am sure they will start coloring up in a couple weeks. Some pictures I took of them and some tankmates.

Re: Help with sexing L 471 - First spawn
Thanks Chuck! I've been offering some bug bites and earthworm sticks but tough to know if they get to them since they never leave the leaves while I'm there and there's ramshorn snails in the breeder net. They're growing and don't seem skinny so they seem to be eating enough. I had a bad experience...

Re: Help with sexing L 471 - First spawn
Congratulations on the fry! Some flake foods or meatier type pellet foods should be offered too IMO. I do find Hypancistrus fry like to eat off leaves and wood much more than most adults. The fry will often eat some algae as well.

Re: L124 spawn
You've just reminded me the fry are pretty unicoloured at first, which is odd for such a pretty fish. They look healthy mind you - great work! Jools Thanks Jools! I agree, very odd. I can't think of any other pleco that is like this..... any other pleco that I have bred have at least some spotting/...

Re: L124 spawn
That's terrific! Good luck with them. Cheers, Eric Thanks Eric. Awesome. How big are the breeders? Thank you. They are not full grow yet.... at a guess I would say 7" TL female and 8" TL male. My guess is there was ~45/50 eggs laid, and I got ~35 wigglers. I did have some fungus and the m...

L124 spawn
I picked up some F1 L124's from Eric Bodrock back in May 2019. 5 days ago, I found a male with eggs. I removed the eggs to hatch.... I found an egg outside his cave so thought it best to pull them. Hope you enjoy.

I have 2 groups of L397's...... one I got as juvies in 2018 the others were adults, I got in 2019 so no idea how old they are. Both still spawn often. My oldest plec I still have are L174 and Peckoltia zwerg I got in 2004 and 2005. Both still breed and produce fry.....

L253?
Picked up what looks like a male and female plecs a couple weeks ago. They come in as L14..... to me they look like L253's but would like to see what you all think. They are both around 7" TL.
Thanks,
Chuck

Re: Pleco size
Like Eric said.... he needs some other foods. He is more of a omnivores pleco than an herbivore, but I would also feed more often too. Skipping a day every so often if fine but every other day isn't (IMO).
Hope that helps,
Chuck

The safer they feel the more they are willing to come out in the open. Give them lots of hiding places..... caves, rockwork, wood, ect. Maybe some top or midwater fish wouldn't hurt too. Re: L345
Cool! How did you hatch the eggs? I don't like egg tumblers. I take a large glass jar with 7/8 water (so it will float) in the tank they were bred in and an air stone. The first 12 hours or so I have Alder cones in with the eggs.... after I do 100% water changes several times a day till they are re...
