Re: Bandit Cory Cats (C. Metae)

You could probably find a home for them on craigslist, but the risk would be that you'd find folks who don't really know anything about keeping fish, especially corys, so you'd have to screen them somehow.

Re: Which One Is Better Between Sand & Small Gravel !!!

I understood "sand" was better so I bought flint sand, which basically came from somewhere in the Midwest US. I had been raising Corys in larger "gravel" with no problem. When I went to the sand the barbels on the Cory's were toast. The sand basically looks like kids playground ...

Re: Dying Cory's?

I'd say 80 is a little warm for most types of corydoras.

Re: Dehumidifier water

With any experiment, one needs some type of a "control" factor. Did you try testing your tap water for ammonia? Just curious. I have also experienced that the reservoir in my dehumidifier will grow all kinds of strange stuff if I don't sterilize it on a regular basis. To be accurate with ...

Re: Otocinclus reproduction?

Thanks to both of you. I'll keep an eye out for eggs and be ready to make a trip to my LFS for a net and food. I'll start growing algae, too!At the same time, I will not be unduly optimistic!

Otocinclus reproduction?

My otocinclus cats are definitely trying to reproduce. I have a reverse trio (purely by luck) and the female today looks like she swallowed a grape. This morning, I noticed that she was swimming all over the aquarium, closely followed by one of the males. I just saw them assume the T position, so I ...

Re: Dehumidifier water

Hah! If they had a lab here, it was more than 20 years ago, because we've lived here that long.

Re: Dehumidifier water

EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY! On a whim I thought it would be a good idea to test my reservoir of dehumidifier water and these are the results: pH less than 6.0 and Ammonia between 4.0 and 8.0 ppm! Interestingly, I just tested my dehumifidier water and found ammonia, about 3 mg/l. No, there is n...

Re: Dehumidifier water

I am very curious as to how you could get ammonia in your dehumidifier water. Interesting, folks have suggested all sorts of problems with dehumidifier water, but nobody suggested ammonia. I will test mine and report back.

Re: Dehumidifier water

No smokers in this house. No fresh paint, no bug spray or mold issues either. I thought this would be a fairly simple question, boy was I wrong! Maybe this could be a good excuse to get another tank (or two or three!) and do a study on dehumidifier water. :D no kidding! I researched this about a ye...

Re: Dehumidifier water

I've thought about collecting rainwater, but here's my problem with that: The easiest way I have available to collect any significant amount of rainwater is from the downspouts on my house. Where I live, we have a lot of birds (and subsequent pooping) and seeds, leaves and sticks that end up in the...

Re: Dehumidifier water

I have used dehumidifier water to soften the water in my tank, without any apparent problem. I usually do not use more than about one third dehumidifier water. I have read the theoretical criticisms of using this water, both in this thread and on other websites, namely that the water touches copper ...

can you add ant salt to Cory's water?
Would I be better of moving my Guppies into another tank
and treating them with salt?
Guppies are fine without salt. I've done it for years. I'd just stop adding salt to your aquarium.
