another thing to consider too is that plecs also do this. my clown and red and black both do this action as well as many others i have had in the past. I dont know what this is for other than instinct or social behavior its kinda like that whole tree falling in the woods thing i guess?!?

the body spotting looks exactly like the C. kanei but it has a little more pronouced spotting with a stripe at the base of the caudal fin made up from spotting not a solid stripe more like a denser amount of spots making it look like a solid line but i m leaning towards C.kanei

trust me if you have long fin paleatus you will know it.. mine have dorsal fins that are the length of their bodies and they are juv. the dorsal and bodies are about 1/2"-3/4" it is very obvious that it is a high or long fin variety.
