Assuming I had the capability to house enormous predatory catfish, I'd have to go with Pylodictus olivaris, the yellow or flathead catfish. Second in size only to the blue catfish, it is the most predatory and piscavorous species in North America. Not what you might call attractive, but one heck of...

:D I do not think red tailed catfish should be kept in cativity, unless maybe by a zoo. It is usually cruel and inhumane treatment eventually they just grow too large. Good luck . :( most Zoos have to small of taks.. My single indoor Pond has a larger foot print then most of my zoos freshwater tanks.

if your going to keep 1 of these giant cats. then you will have room for another.. get both.

Oxydoras niger stay pretty small.. easily maintained in a large home aquaria, where as RTC and TSN grow giant and need something VERY large.

lets not even mention Piaraba.

A M. tigrinus is to small of a fish to hang out with my boys...... But yes.. this is the best set up for a SHoval nose.. The sides of the pond act as padding when fish ram it.. so it wont Dent up their nose. I fill the pond up probly around 100 gallons a weak lost in evaporation.... Durring the nigh...

Re: Tiger Shovelnose

I had one for years and he grew to about 30" and lived just fine in a 265 gal. tank with a large Clown Knife and a Black Arowanna.I would probably still have him had he not leaped out of the tank. 'Lived just fine' is not what I would say about a fish that did not manage to reach what should b...

I agree. I think my 2000 gallon indoor pond is still a little small for a full grown adult TSN.

I do not mean that in an offensive way as most hobbyists probably are not familiar with many taxonomic terms. HH said, Leiarius longibarbis (L. marmoratus is a junior synonym). Perrunichthys has fewer ...
