Re: Cross breed catfish(mixed species)

I apoligize to all for the use of word "breed" instead of species. :-X Thank you for your info Silurus . I guess the question should have been " at what point does a 'mixed/cross species' become reconized as a new species. :?: I know that some people prefer only nature's work of mixin...

Cross breed catfish

I have a crossbreed of a tiger shovlenose and a redtail catfish, and I am wondering if crossbreeds are being given names or not. It has a shorter nose the a regular shovlenose, the markings of a shovlenose, but a rounder red tail. As I said are these just halfbreeds, or are they named. Are they like...

Re: pl*co with Sideburns but no Mustache

It is about 3", and less then 6months I would say. I got it about a 6 weeks ago at about 1.5" and it dissapeared. It reappeared yesterday when doing a check of all driftwood, decorations, and other object looking for strays, and excess meats( I feed lots of dew worms, and shrimp and look f...

Re: pl*co with Sideburns but no Mustache

Hi, the "sideburns" are in fact the interopercular odontodes (or something to that effect), the hooked form typical for Ancistrus. I'd go with A. cf. cirrhosus. If they are visible the whole time your fish has some kind of deformations, usually they can be retracted. The interopercular od...

Pleco with Sideburns but no Mustache

I looked through all the L#'s and the LDA#'s and I think I have narrowed down the field for this baby. It's less then 6months old, and about 3inches, I picked it up because it looked unique. I am wondering if this is one of the undescribed genus. It has 8 spines in the dorsal, there'e no sign or any...

Is there a common species similar to LDA38/42

Looking through the Cat-elog, and doing lots of reading I got the impression that speciec of Plecos with 8 spines in the sailfin were rarer then those with 10 or more. Since reading this I have watched at all the stores I visit for this feature on plecos. One store yesterday recieved a shipment of c...

Re: Is it possible to heal a split sail on a pl*co

Looking at all the advice *thank you all*. I'm going to leave it in the treated tank for a week, then gently move it to my Juvy tank where I keep my fish that are not ready for mixing with the adults. Since most of these are smaller midddle of the tank type fish it should be okey there. Thanks again...

Is it possible to heal a split sail on a pleco

I found what I beleive to be an LDA 38 Hypostomus plecostomoides (8 spines split at the ends) I spent 20 min watching this guy to make sure the sail was what I believed. It was sold as a common. However when I got it home I found that when the store caught it for me that its sail got split all the w...

Re: Let the byer beware or be a fool

I'm keeping them in a separate 20gal tank, while I do some reshearch, there are many different opinions on how to keep them, and what communities to put them in, there is also many opinions of keeping them in freash water. At least now I don't feel so dumb. I got 2 ID sharks 12 & 14" for fr...

Looking for help to ID a Hypostomus

I luck into purchasing a Hypostomus pleco, the only problem is whats the actual species. I tried researching myself, and narrowed it down to Hypostomus plecostomoides, Hypostomus robinii, Hypostomus micromaculatus, or Hypostomus cordovae. I tried 'whats my catfish', and the moderator agreed with me,...

Re: Hypostmus What

Unfortunatley the store I got it from said it was a drop off from another customer, so the catch location is totally unknown. The only thing I can figure since I'm in Toronto Canada, it had to be mixed with some common inports, sold, returned, then sold again. So what do I do flip a coin, to list a ...

Re: Asian Bumblebee Losing Colour

Is there any kind of stress. I have notices some of my fish seem to loose or change colour if they are stressed, if I see this happening I try to find the cause of the stress. It could be something as simple as another fish moving to close to "their territory".

Re: my Irridescent shark act weirdly...is it sick?

Hello don't ask me why by many fish do this. I have a 120gal, with 4 different cat species including 3 Irrdesent sharks and several non cat species. There is one spot in the tank that almost every fish in the tank does that dive and rub.. No other spot in the tank, just this one spot, and that inclu...
