Re: Noturus insignis
Always nice to get out and dip a net to see what shows up. Id had loved to keep them both but I let them go. You will have to try them one day, the N. insignis I have are fairly active and interesting species. Sculpins, I have not brought any home yet but are on my list. Birger Is room temperature ...

Noturus insignis
I went sampling with a nanfa member yesterday & we caught my first marginated madtom - Noturus insignis. We saw two but managed to catch one of them. I had a great time. We also caught my first slimy sculpin, Cottus cognatus. My normal photo tank was broken so I had to make due with a small plas...

Re: catfish w/mollies?
These mollies should be fine in your tap water. The small amount of salt is optional. Mollies are my favorite live bearers. I generally don't care for most of them. The strain seems to have been lost but at one time there was a Delta Tail Molly. Both sexes had tails about as well developed as delta...

Re: catfish w/mollies?
Its a mix of colors, lyretail dalmation, sphenops & common black. She's 4 & fell in love with some black mollies a friend gave me to dispose of in my african tank but one decided to beat the odds for a year till a male Lab decided to spawn & killed it off. So I went out & set up a sm...

catfish w/mollies?
For my daughters tank, she wants mollies. What catfish can I keep with them since it'll have some salt in the water (1 tblsp./5 US gallons)?

Re: Upgrading to a 75 US gallon tank
Yeah that is quite a bit of difference...How acidic? Now i'm wondering if their water requirements may be too different from my current fish. Would there be any way to acclimate either the discus or my current stock to one another's liking? or if you think they may be too difficult a recommendation...

Re: Upgrading to a 75 US gallon tank
If your not going to tear down the 29 then what I've done in the past, is rinsed out the old filter bag inside the new tank to seed it. I've also used those ceramic peices they sell for filters for the bacteria to live on & transfered that from my mature tank to the new tank. I just set up a sma...

Congrats! I just removed my 1st batch of abn fry last week. They are great parents. The most I ever saw was just one fry till I lifted the flower pot coaster. I managed to net 17, my Labs ate a bunch.

Re: Quarintine Procedures
I've found out the hard way the value of quarantining fish. Lost a tank of african cichlids due to a plague. Then after that I tried a 2 week quarantine on a pair of wild caught Lethrinops albus. They looked fine, ate but then I lost the female after putting in my main african tank. She got thin, th...

I finally spawned my first pleco species. Albino bristlenosed pl*co's. I only saw one the other night. I went to remove it today to keep my cichlids from eating it & discovered 20+ babies. Mr whiskers was very good at keeping them confined. Now they're all over. I reserved a bunch in my fry bask...

Re: ABN pleco behavior
Before I went to bed last night, I tried taking a peek with a flash light. He's pretty good at keeping nosey things from peeking. The cave is a clay saucer for a flower pot I chipped the edge for an entrance. I tried looking in from under the tank but he's got a fine layer of sand in there so that w...

Re: ABN pleco behavior
If they have spawned, should I seperate the fry from the tank or are their spines enough to protect them from labidochromis caerulus when they're so small? They leave their own 1/2-3/4" fry alone. Its just the newly released that get munched.

I've had a pair of abn's hoping for a spawn. Im not sure if they have or not but Mr whisker's (daughter named him), has been a little odd as of late. Normally he'll be in & out of his cave. In the cave he'll be looking out at everything. Now the past few days, all I see is tail. I havent seen hi...

Think about it, it was stuck in a glass box to small to move around. You'd be hessitant to to try to swim when all you knew before was to do so meant a headache.

In the special order section, when it says minimum #, is that per species or, for example if it says 6, I can order 3 of one & 3 of another on the special order list? Im going to assume 6 of the same but wanted to clarify.

Re: The definition of the word 'disaster'
Im sorry for your losses. I left the hobby after loosing my prized male discus. he'd spawn regularly with two sisters. I lost him after he got his head wedged between two roots on a piece of driftwood. I heard some splashing the one night. I figured the cat jumped onto the tank as she often did and ...
