When I first got them last year, the largest one and one of the smaller two bullied the other smaller one despite plenty of caves and hiding places for all of them, and though I moved him, he didn’t make it past QT. But the other two adopted caves on opposite sides of the tank and come out to play and eat with the cories at feeding time and they’ve just been neat little fish for the past year and a half. Today as I was watching them eat, the smaller slender one that I suspect is a male, came out of his cave to eat, then the bigger, wider-bodied suspected female came out of her coconut hut to eat. THEN a much smaller one — less than half the size of the other two — came out of the coconut hut also!!! Where did this young catfish come from? I almost didn’t notice it mixed in with the cories (which is, of course, the whole deal with imitator cats 😆) until I saw the stripe down the side. This little guy must have been in there unnoticed for months 😱 They’re in a 30g with a group of six emerald cories, bristlenose pleco, and angelfish. Filtration is a combination of canister, ugf, and a powerhead for a bit extra circulation. Fully planted, natural gravel, rocks, and driftwood, with some artificial caves and coconut huts. Diet is a blend of pellets, flakes, and frozen foods." |
