Light is on 10 hours a day and tank is in indirect sunlight. Most of the tank is medium-large crypts. Tank is species only, no snails, no shrimp, but a small copepod population lives in there. Water is Montreal tap water treated with Prime, water conditioner. After one year, adults began spawning each time it rains. Of my group only one of my females seems to spawn, but she mates with different males. Breeding female hides more when she is at her most eggy. Eggs are laid on the underside of medium sized crypt leaves (not young and not old). Eggs appear to hatch after 3 days. newborns begin eating within a week of being born, and only gain color once they start to eat. Newborns in my tank only eat algae/microflora that grows on the roots of pothos plants for the first two weeks. After, they prefer to eat boiled vegetables or natural grown algae. At 3/4 inch they are moved to the larger nursery tank. Survival rate is very much NOT 100% in this tank, however I get around 3-10 surviving babies per rainstorm. Young otocinclus are then traded to my local pet store for supplies. I am located in Canada." |
