Down Basics
Overview The first spawn was on Monday 8th of May 2023. The breeding group consisted of 2 males and 3 females. Additionally, there were 1 unknown individual present. The smallest male was at least 13mm SL and the smallest female was at least 10mm SL. The individuals were obtained from Rio Nanay west of Iquitos, Peru.
Feeding
1.Hikari Algae Wafers (dry / prepared) daily
Down Water Parameters (at time of spawning)
Temperature 22.5°C to 25.5°C
Current Gentle(air)
Other Water Params Tapwater dechlorinated with Aquavitro alpha. 50% water change weekly.
Down Aquarium
Dimensions The aquarium dimensions were 1219mm x 457mm x 533mm (48" x 18" x 21") all Length x Width x Height.
Furniture Sand substrate, small tree stumps, Manzanita branches, live plants emerging from water (Cherry tomatoes, Hibiscus, Pothos), a crud ton of many algae types, many caves... and snails, LOTS of snails!
Filtration Sponge filters and two HOB filters
Lighting Natural light through greenhouse windows.
Heating Two Fluval E series 200W heaters set to 76F/24.5C. Heaters do not prevent tank from cooling overnight and the tank heats above 25C naturally on warm days.
Down Breeding
Behaviour Not observed. Male found fanning eggs in cave.

Segregation Eggs moved to a small plastic container with airstone.
