Down Basics
Overview The first spawn was on Sunday 7th of May 2017. The breeding group consisted of 5 males and 5 females. The smallest male was at least 130mm SL and the smallest female was at least 110mm SL. The youngest adult was approximately 3 months old. The individuals were obtained from Different LFSs.
Feeding
1.Hikari Carnivore Tablets (dry / prepared) two times daily
Down Water Parameters (at time of spawning)
pH 6.80 to 7.10
Conductivity 600µs to 800µs
Temperature 27.5°C to 28.5°C
Current Medium
Other Water Params 20-30% water changes every two weeks. I did not use RO water, just tap water.
Down Aquarium
Dimensions The aquarium dimensions were 1829mm x 610mm x 762mm (72" x 24" x 30") all Length x Width x Height.
Furniture Shallow depth of whitish sand on bottom, a few large pieces of driftwood, and several homemade caves.
Filtration 3 Filstars (medium size). I do not use charcoal or other binders, just the sponges inside.
Lighting Low. One single flourescent bulb.
Heating One single 200w heater
Down Breeding
Behaviour The males are only in caves on rare occasion. Male and female enter cave and occupy it for several days, until eggs are produced. They seem to prefer larger caves unlike other species of plecos that like a tight fit.
Eggs There were 40 yellow eggs laid which were 3.5mm in diameter.
Segregation Some eggs were kicked out, which i removed and placed in a net. Others were left with the father.
